Bird watching: Cano Negro is a paradise to see birds. There are more than 300 species and more than 10000 specimens of birds. Is the most important place in Costa Rica for birds concentrations and nesting. The most important specimens are the Roseat Spoonbill, the Wood Stork, the White Ibis, the Anhinga and much more migratory specimens. There are also mammals like the Jaguar, the Puma, Danta and others.

The Caño Negro National Wild Life Refuge is the best ecological site with the emerald basilisc, iguanas, river turtles and caimans and is considered one of the best sites in America to see wild animals concentrations. Also are common on this area jaguars, ocelots. Giant Ant Bears and others.
